I have now had the opportunity to work with an airbrush after 25 years! It was an experience and I think I finally got the hang of it. I used the control of the airgun to create the graded striations of the sky transitioning from warm tones into the deeper blues of a sky. If you look at a sky you will notice that it fades from deep blue and warms up toward the horizon line. This is particularly important when creating a seascape on the scale that is represented here. Picture one, shows the results at the end of day 4. While hard to see there is really a soft transition from warm creamy tones, to pale blue to deep blue. More sky elements will be added later.
Picture two shows the appearance of the sea horizon line - with close tone blending toward the sky line. Picture a late afternoon with the sun disappearing and how the line begins to blur between the two planes.
Picture 3 at the end of day 6 shows the major block in of some of the closer elements of the sea. This mural will be view mostly from a seated position, and even in the pool, so we have to remember perspective here.
Stay tuned to see what appears in the blocked out areas shown here.

Kathryn,
This is such a great idea to be able to follow your process as you create this beautiful seascape! I know I'm going to really enjoy this.
Thanks,
Lynn
